2nd thing.....BUY A SERVICE MANUAL.
The first place I would start with your problem is taking your clutch cover off. Its the cover on the right side of your engine. It might be something as simple as the kickstarter wasn't installed in the correct spot. There is a "stop" on the back side of the kickstarter gear. That "stop" has to be lined up in the correct channel on the engine case. A service manual would have pictures of what I am trying to describe....you know pictures can be worth a thousand words sometimes.
