Its called "The Consent Decree". In short, government ban on the sale of 3 wheelers in 1988. There after deaths still continued to rise (i.e. Peak time for all the old 2 strokes) So to stay out of the court rooms and not loose customers the manufactors went to the heavier/slower 4 stroke.

If you have some time to read...

not to get off subject or anything but i read part of that thing that you posted reeper, and i seen how it said sumthing about an age limit, i think that is bullshit, i been riding a quad that was intended for ppl 16 and older since i was 11 years old and iv only wrecked it once, instead of age limits.. they should have iq test becasue it is always a rearated that goes out and buys a fast ass quad for his first one and goes out and dies tryin a 100ft jump

Oh my god that article pisses me off so much. They are there to "protect" the consumers? They are responsible for the loss of some of the things we "consumers" enjoyed. I guess we "consumers" are to fucking dumb to exercise common sense and be responsible for ourselves. I guess we need someone to protect us and tell us we can have this or that and that 3-wheelers are to dangerous and we can't have them because its for our own good. I fucking hate people that think that shit is any good. What they need to do is concentrate on bastards that sell shit that don't work like we want them to and they are supposed to, not protect us from something we want and serves its purpose in the exact way we want. If someone gets hurt on something like this its their fault, even if its an accident its just that, an accident, and besides they were doing what they were doing because they wanted to. Protect us from companies that make faulty things and could hurt us because of that, not because the accidents happen and dumb asses have money and can buy things to.

I think it doesnt have much to do with the quickness, epa,or 'powerband'. but twostrokers are just to easy and cheap to rebuild so in order that honda, suzuki, and kawi manufactures to justify anything that would not for many years later be on a closed curcuit track they made 4poke quads to make up their sales in parts. thinking more components in the engine = more problems=more money 4 them..... ah probably not but I was on a roll huh.

"Order the ATV industry to increase their efforts to ensure that their dealers do not sell adult-sized ATVs for use by children"

yeah like thats going to happen. Places around here I could just go up give them the money and they will let me ride it home lol.

I agree with all of the above arguments. But, it is not always about your skill level. But, about the skill level of the other riders that worries me!

Example, yesterday I took my family out on our quads. and watched another family allow there 3 1/2 ft. tall 7 yr. old to ride a 250r 3-wheeler. This kids feet could not even touch the pegs. I think that is the example that the courts were trying to make. Obviously it was an atv to big for that little of a guy to handle. He cannot easily reach either brake lever if he needed to stop in time from hitting someone or something. It is a real bummer that parents allow this to go on.

But there is no way to monitor this, so the manufacturers took the only course of action they could to keep there arses out of the court rooms. I don't blame them one bit. It does make me sad that the trx 250r's are no longer being made. But I do like the fact that when I go riding I get alot of looks and no wants to mess with it!!!!

after owning a 2 stroke for about a month now, i realise how big of a mistake atv manufacturers made...it is gret tho that not everybody can go into a dealer and getr the same machine anymore, and every single person on here has a piece of history

the r, tecate, ltz's are amasing machines...i havent ridden any but they are great mchines and i think atv manufacterers made a big mistke discontinuing them because tthere are stupid people buying machines over their skill levels
