| the engine looks totaly diffrent to me. 4 valves insted of 5, one throttle body insted of 2 carbs, the casting of the cylinder is completely different. yamaha wanted to update the grizzly powerplant and just carried it over to the raptor. its a damn 4x4 utility quad motor in a sport quad frame. http://www.yamaha-motor.com/sport/pr...0/compare.aspx

| I dont like the way banshees turn,it seems like they push straight---but there are 4 of them bastards in my garage |

| you know if Yamaha wanted to, they could keep right on with the banshee or hell any 2 stroke for that matter. The technology is here. Direct or straight up fuel injected 2 strokes do not pollute no more than a 4 stroke. Evinrude has already proved this with there E TEC engine. That engine out performs, weighs less, and burns cleaner than any 4 stroke outboard they put it up against. So the EPA being the reason 2 strokes are almost dead?? BULL............SHIT!!! The epa just has criteria that needs to be met, and the damn manufacturers don't wanna put in the R&D money to develop 2 strokers to meet the criteria. |

| There are rumors of honda prototype EFI 2strokes, but the fact of the matter is, its just not cost efficient for them to do. The motors dont last as long as a 4stroke (without rebuilds) and when you finally do blow the 4 stroke you usually buy a new quad. (More $$$ for them) They have already spent the money on R&D for there 4stroke platforms so why waist it on 2strokes. There target customers are 1) well off 25-40 year old guys that will buy a 4x4 dog-o-matic cadillac for themselfs and a smaller sport quad for there kids, to spend quality time away from the wife. 2) Sponsored racers who go fast, jump high, and look cool, all to make kids nag there fathers for a quad. Dont get me wrong, I love both my shees & my baby shee (blaster) but they are gone, and none of these companys re going to bring them back. |

| 4 strokes don't last longer between rebuilds... any new 450 needs just as much if not more maintenence than a banshee... and the maintenecne is more expensive.... theres an article somewhere on this site.... same with a raptor

| How may times do you change the rings in a 4 stroke vs a 2stroke? Give me abreak buddy, everything requires tuning. Im talking about raw cash. 2strokes are more expensive to keep running for the most part. Every rule has its exceptions, but lets face it, my friends 400ex has cost alot less to keep running than my blaster. But when his 400 goes he will most likely buy a new quad rather than spend the cash to put piston and rings in it. (More money for the dealer) Thats why 2strokes are dead. I guess we could go back and forth with this, spend a little bit alot of times or spend alot a few times. |

| Yeah I don't agree with the phrase "2 strokers don't last long". My 1976 GT550 was never touched before I bought it (I was the second owner). The jugs were never off of it. And it had 18,000 miles on it and had 140 psi on each cylinder and passeed a leak down with flying colors. My 77 Water buffalo had 22,000 miles and was never tore down. And the family ski boat's 140 horse Evinrude V-4 has 325 hours and counting. Now granted these motors don't get beat on like a quad, but still yet I rode the shit out of them. I believe with the right maintenance a 2 stroker can last along time. Anyway I guess I'm beating a dead horse but I refuse to come home without smelling of OIL LOL ![]() |

| Queston though? What makes a 2 stroke wear faster anyway? Is it poor maintenance? I mean they usually don't see any higher rpm than a 4 stroke. The are lubricated pretty good. Well if people don't lean the mix, that is. So just what does it? Yeah I understand they fire every stroke but most newer ones are water cooled so heat doesn't come into play |
