Default 1976 honda 125

alright im new here and wanted to say hey to everyone. I recently got my uncles 1976 honda 125 mt enduro, the only thing was it has been sitting for the last 4 years. It was sitting with gas in it anyway the tank was of coarse metal and had rust inside. Does anyone know how to prevent the rust from coming back? Iv already cleaned it all out with Meuratic(sp) acid but when i put gas in it starts to rust again. So is there anything i can use to coat the metal? ill post some pics up in a bit. Thanks in advance.

Welcome to the world of old metal tanks. What I did for mine was take the tank off. Go out to the driveway and get some rocks (seriously) put a few pounds of them in your tank + a little water and shake the hell out of it for a while. There is various rust dissolvers/converters and the market for that too. www.eastwoodco.com sells them specifically for rusty metal gas tanks. One more trick to do is run a tube though your petcot. That will stop rust from being drawn from the bottom of your tank. Definitely use a fuel filter...PB

Alright well sorry to bring up this old post but im back, I totally forgot about this site and just thought id post again. I have coated the inside of the tank with this ceramic stuff(i dont really know what it is a gas tank shop did it for me) I cleaned out the carb, sucked out the old oil from the injector tank and put some new amsoil in and last i cleaned out the airbox, what a job. it was full of acorns and grass and other junk from a chipmunk or somthing. eventually i took it out and it started second kick! i just have to do some tuning of the carb as the idle is ruff and it only runs on the choke, when i switch it off the choke after its warmed up the idle slowly climbs higher and higher and then i have to switch it back to choke cause im kind of afraid of it blowing up(its got over 4500Miles and all original) anyone got any idea's on how to get the tuning right? Thanks

its ok to get old threads up. do a plug chop, Plug Chop How To?
sounds like it might be lean or have a air leak, if its been setting then a seal might be bad. try spraying wd40 or something around the intake base gaskets and crank seals and all other gaskets if the idle changes then u have a leak. if its leaking then dont run it till its fixed
