It really doesnt matter how much you bitch and complain about the 2 strokes being phased out, they are never coming back. Face it, blowers, weedwhips, chainsaws, all your outdoor equipment are converting to 4-stroke. All powersports have to be 4-stroke by 2010. Its for one reason and one reason only. EPA EMISSION REGULATIONS. Its too hard to regulate the emissions on a 2-stroke compared to that of a 4-stroke. Dont get me wrong, I love 2 strokes and I wont get rid of my CRs anytime soon.
okay whats this about making all powersports being 4-stroke by 2010 what are they going to give people tickets if u have a 2-stroke i swear people are effffing retared
no, if you have 2 strokes you can still ride them, you just cannot buy them. It will be illegal to produce a 2-stroke by 2010 that cannot meet strict epa guidelines.
Anyone who owns a 2 stroke is grandfathered in, and can ride them forever, or until another law comes along banning 2 strokes.

well apart from dirtbikes, most 2 strokes now are injected so they actually get better gas milage and polute less than 4 storkes, alot of the new ski doos have it

thats true to an extent, Jerimiah Jones was the last person to really ride the R and win, he was given a huge offer by suzuki to ride an ltr so he switched, but he said that altho it is alot easier to make a ltr engine fast, that you can get more power from a 265r if you know what your doing, and that you also need to know how to ride a 2 stroke, but i dont know if people here have seen him on a R, but he fucking rips on them

f*ck yamaha.....I'd rather drink hot budwiser through a straw
this is a great post and really narrows down who's really to blame, ever since i started racing MX i've always done it on a 2 stroke. just something about filling the bike with premix while watching the sun come up, no better feeling i the world. with this new ruling by the ama we will probably be see'ing a lot more 2 strokes back at the tracks, maybe even a few big bore 490's and 500's too. too bad Honda stopped production on the CR's.
and to clarify this is for the amature ranks, not pro....
i went to the honda and yamaha dealer yesturday and we were talkin about the 4 pokes and 2 strokes and he said by the end of 2008 there not goin to beable to sell the twostrokes because of some ban. so he told in the future when your lookin for a 2 stroke you will have to buy it use and abused and from privete partys whickh to me that blows

The Marine industry has no plan to stop making 2 strokes, by any date. They now have clean burning 2 strokes that are direct injected! Please remember with Marie you are dealing with 2 sources of pollution. Water and air!
Do a search for Honda EXP or Ivan Boyesen's trapping valve 2 stroke. The technology is there and has been. Until the big 5 see a drop in sales of 4 junks they will keep them on the showroom floors.
Question how will the manufacturers deal with the smaller displacements like the 65s, 85s, and 100cc's that are 2 strokes. If that is the case of ridding 2 strokes then they should be fined right now for making these small bikes especially since kids ride them. But NO the rules protect them till the new rule is in effect. Suzuki, Yamaha, Gas Gas and KTM are holding out. More so in other countries.
If you all believe 2 strokes will never come back just keep believing that! Thats what they want! It's it funny we now see retro automobiles? Why? The sales of the Mustang dropped. People wanted to relive the past. So we now see throwback cars! The Camaro is coming out as are new retro Dodge's. Wouldn't it have been easer and cheaper to just keep popping out and selling the same old same old. Can't do it when it just sits on the showroom floor gotta have "NEW" and "Improved" Check that out! If it's "Improved" isn't it "NEW" then? Another play on words to get you to buy the "NEW" thing! Which is the same thing just prettied up and repackaged!
The last of the so called 2 strokes are on the showroom floors and is they all get sold there "will" be more. If you switch and buy a 4 stroke then thats one less 2 stroke they have to produce and sell. Also if we rebuild our old Smokers and keep them going It's one less 4 junk they will be selling! So I ask you who's at fault? We are!
We run vintage motorcycle races at Twin Creeks our local track here in PA. All I see is old 2 strokes redone and guys racing having fun. I'm talking bikes from the 1970's, so if they can keep them alive no problem keeping the quad stuff going. There are lot's of parts to be had. Plus by keeping your old steed alive it is an investment. I know I sound like dear old dad preaching the save your money deal but I paid 1249.00 for my 1974 Honda CR 250 in 74! See what they get now for them? $5000.00 or more. You see the prices the TRX 250R's bring!
Adopt my saying and keep it going:
"There will always be 2 strokes in my world"
Nice talk'in with all of ya!

Performance cycle, I don't know who you are or where you came from but you speak the truth. There's too much of a performance advantage to the 2 stroke design. In the future I forsee EPA friendly 2 stoke motors in dirtbikes and quads- one way or another. Once one of the big four realize they can be the first to make money off this it WILL happen...PB
