Talking gary denton speaks out for 2 strokes

this guy is a cool cat IMO ,hes a dam n good role model(so is tim farr BTW) for the new generation of quad rider and helps promote the sport more so han doug gust and alot more than bill balance who avoids his fans at all costs from what ive heard fro mother racers. gary has won alot more titles than any other rider ever has ,1987-1994 he has won every atv title ,i was reading his interview in the new dirtwheels issue and for once i liked what it had to say

DW:what quad did you ride?
GD:honda 250r
DW: was it your all time favorite machine?
GD:OH,yeah, i rode suzukis too and they were great, but that old 250r, that was a machine.i n the right traction,it was the best.
DW:how would it fare today against a yfz450 or a trx 450r?
GD:like i said in the right traction,it would be unbeatable.it was a pipey machine ,of coarse but it wasnt all about torque. on the pipe and in the right dirt and it was gone,
it would smoke these new machines.it was the best machine of its day.

well said Gary

Hah... hellz yeah... it's good to hear him stick up for the 2-strokes. In an interview last year (I think it was dirtwheels... I'll have to look it up) they asked him what he thought the biggest improvement in quad racing has been since he was in the scene. His answer was "four strokes". I almost pooped myself when I read it...

Well I was talking to Will at 1dirracing and he was telling me that the 450r is having issues with the cylinder's turning into footballs and blowing up. I guess the cylinder is so bored out to get the 450cc that the wall is so thin. This all comes back to what bandit posted about Eric gorr's website and how he has such a back log of 4-stroke work and how parts are hard to come by.

I'm telling everyone right now the manufactures are putting the 4-strokes out because of one reason. All the shops were complaining about not having enough work. So they are pumping these damn 4-strokes out and there junk. Your going to see more and more problems and issues with these crappy 4-strokes. People think oh theres no maintenance with them but that is bullshit. Always having to adjust valves, change the oil, and the list goes on. I wouldn't change doing a simple top end for the world.

FUCK 4-STROKES

well said banshee, well said. oh and the cylinders turn into footballs cuz the pistons dont have skirts. the only part of the piston that comes down past the oil ring is around the wrist pin. cuz of the lac of skirt the piston wants to flip sideways in the cyl. they have a cupple of them new 450 pistons all messed up sittin on the desk at my local honda/yamaha shop. its like there proud of it or sumthin "so heres our new bike that tosses a topend every 100 hours... that ill be three grand thank you"

stupid 4 strokes.

they don't like the idea of you being able to order the parts and do it your self. As long as you keep up on your 2stroke you dont have to spend any money on it besides gas/premix/plugs and piston&rings. My friends 450s are allways at honda or yamahaa getting fixed or worked on. And they spend hundreds everytime the bike goes in the shop. My friend spent close to 2,000 on cam and some other motor work and the valves have to be adjusted after a certain amount of hours . Screw that. I hear alot of people with 4 pokes allways doing something to the motor. I rebuild my top end on my lt and its good for a couple years. The only thing i spend money on is tires and chain & sprockets, gas, plugs

I wouldn't go that far. The manufacturers are not purposely turning out junk just to support mechanics. I'd say the main reason for converting to 4 strokes is just to please the EPA and all the other tree-humping fucks out there.

But at least Doug Gust stated the truth. Most of the other riders are saying the 450s are the best quads ever just to please the manufacturers. You know that if Kory Ellis or Tim Farr said that the 250R was the best quad ever, they would hear it from Yamaha and Honda. 4 Strokes will never make as much power as two strokes CC for CC. It's pathetic to think that will all the technology that has gone into 4 strokes, they still need 200 more CCs to compete with 2 strokes, which haven't had much technological improvements in the past 20 years. A 1986 TRX250R will still compete with a 2005 TRX450R and YFZ450. Just think about that and let it soak in. Sad, isn't it?

With all that said, I hope Suzuki's new 450 is as bad ass as the rumors say. Doug Gust deserves to win at least one more championship before he retires again.

gust is a old bald loser IMO, he has repeatedly discredited the 2 strokes especially the banshee and has gone on record as saying the new 450's (and his hopped up weakass suzuki)are superior to the past 2 stroke based machines.he has clearly forgotten his roots, he got his start on quadracers. Gary denton has won alot more than doug ever will or could and has good things to say about the history of sport IMO.

i forgot if i ever told you guys this, but i found out a major problem with the Z 400's. Harold goodman got 7 DNFs due to the engine cases giving out. Doug Gust got 1 DNF due to the same problem. Right where the jug meets the cases, something breaks insides and put a hole in the case. Harold said that he won't race for suzuki next year unless he gets a minimum of $250,000. Gust is an extremely nice guy, just like all the pro riders, but he is getting a little big headed because suzuki is giving him such a fat pay check. He is still very approachable, but his views on ATV as slightly bias.

i don't think the manufacturers are pumping out junk to keep service work up...... thats a bit out there..... i will say that the new 450's have been pushed a bit too far to try and make the needed power.... the new 450's are built like dirtbike engines (the YFZ450 is a dirtbike engine) they come out of the box with a high HP number but..... are not that modable... and for honda and yamaha to get these #'s they push the envelope a bit.... these kind of engine require more maintenence..... we are talking about some things that just seems wrong....... you ever see a YFZ450 run at night??? i"ve seen a few and guess what... the first 3 or 4 inches of the pipe where it connects to the head glows bright red.....
they have to lean these thigns out so badly to make them run right that they are actualyl burnign themselves up.... a YFZ runs very very hot...... and thats with a alum radiator and a oil cooler....... you can mess with the jetting to solve the problem but your gonna take a small power hit...... also you ever heard a YFZ450 idle?????? not if they aren't hot.....

now heres soemthign i find funny....... of all the 4 pokes i've ever ridden i liek the YFZ450 the best.. because it actually rides a bit like a 2 stroke.... the power is not all right offf idle they are actualy a mid range type engine.. then you have to feather the clutch a bit also.... my budyy sold his 400ex and got a YFZ and the first thing he said was... i liek this quad but....... it rides and runs funny........ the power is way different thatn my cammed and piped 400ex.......... different in a very good way.........

When I rode one I actually noticed differently, I noticed that the yfz was power straight off idle, but the 450r had a bit of hesitation. But the 450r comes with too tall of a gearing, drop a tooth in the front and it solves it pretty easy.
