CVT's can actually be quite efficient, but it'll cost you about $1500 (at least up here) and then they are really only good for dragging. If setup right, they hit peak horsepower almost instantly and stay there till they have shifted all the way up. The biggest problem, imho, is the bloody weight of the things. The '06 Trailblazer is making more power now than my LT250 did stock, but the wet weight is at least 150lbs heavier. With the few bolt on mods to my LT it will run circles around the TrailBlazer, and believe me, we spent far more $'s per horsepower on the TrailBlazer than on my LT.
