Default tecate or atc240r!?!?

i have a chance to trade my dirt bike (which i spent about $400 on all in all) for an original owner 1984 tecate three, all stock except the ignition and electrical probelms have been taken care of and a extended axel. it is in pretty good shape

OR

i have a guy wanting to sell me a pretty much all stock air cooled 1984(?) atc250r for about $350 the motor and tranny and frame and all electrical stuff is good. it will need a new sprocket and back axel and some other cosmetic stuff. plastics, seat..etc.

which one would be the better deal in the end. i like being different and that is why i am still leaning towards the tecate but this 250r could be a deal that i shouldnt pass up..?

i do mostly trail riding and will do some dragging just to show up some 4strokers

thanks in advance for all input

I also like being the odd man out, Personally I would go with the tecate three.
I think that their is less aftermarket though.... I hear you can build them pretty good, Also I have heard that they are pretty quick stock...1st owner, you cant beat that.

keep the tecate... they do make things for the 84-85 tecates still.. def upgrade to 85 rear hubs... and the 85 brake though.... 84 are cable actuated mech. brakes

I would go with the R man. I think the 84' and '85 tecates don't look good with the fat front tire plus parts will be easier to find for the R, but the Tecate would be faster. I have an '85 tecate I bought for $150 put a head gasket on it and it ran. The SOB is a powerhouse lifts the front wheel like nothing. Goodluck man they both sound like good deals.

no not yet I was actually planning on getting both. The tecate deal fell through. I'll be getting a 82 250r in the next week or two. I'm paying 350 for it. The plastic is cracked and it needs a seat or the old one recovered but the motor and frame is in very good shape. What do you think about that price? Good?

decent for a 82, I plan on building another air R later this year and I want to do either a 81 or 82, they make awesome trail machines, as they are lite short and narrow, plus no boil over.
