Default OK, restoring an 85 Tecate 3. Any good advice is very welcome.

I've been out of the game for a looong time. Now that i have my hands back on a trike I want to fix up, I am finding that information about it is nearly impossible to find. I have asked a few questions here and have seen some good answers.

It will probably be another 3 or 4 weeks before I get to tear into it but I am planning on taking everything apart and stripping and repainting everything and fixing stuff as I reassemble it. It will be a project that will certainly take me some time. I'm not made of money. But I want to do this the right way. I know the engine runs but the boot between the carb and engine is torn and when it's started it revs way up so I don't want to start it if necessary until I can get it addressed. It was stored for a long time and all the rubber seems dry rotted. So I definately have my work cut out for me.

Questions I would have is, how difficult should I expect it to be to get parts? Does anyone know of a repair manual for the 85 Tecate that is that I could find to help me along the way? While replacing engine parts, is there anything that is interchangeable form KX's that would be better or more accessible? I have a ton of questions but that's what i can think of for now.

Any advice/warnings/heads up you guys can give me would be greatly appreciated.

Just went to the forsale forum and checked it out. Are you sure that is an 86? I thought the 86 is when they moved the exhaust port to the front center of the cylinder. I could be wrong on that.

I'm not sure just yet. Go ahead and keep trying to sell it and I'll get back with you. If I was positive that it was an 86 I'd probably jump on it. Just curious though, if you don't like Kawasaki, why did you buy this engine?

That's not an 86 motor.. the kawi 86's yes have the exhaust moved around also the most well known feature, the KIPS power valve system.

The one offroader247365 has is the 84-85 style motors. Sorry for you man because the guy who sold it to you gave you either the wrong info you he was not sure himself.

Yea Hoosierdaddy, check out the two 3wheelers given above, you can learn TONS!
