i dont suggest rasing the compressin, but that is just my opinion. preignition is more likely unless u want to run race gas all the time.a higher ocatne fuel allows for a slower more controlled burn where as cheap gas is more volitile. aircooled motors run hotter than water cooled and the power gain compaired to ping aint worth it. without splitting the case i would port the cylinder and get a larger carb. even a good port should do the trick .
