You wouldn't happen to have any pics of your friends bike with the system on it would you? Never had the riding experience with a Christini yet but the reveiws about the recent kits have been pretty solid I'd be sure to have them figure out whats wrong with their kit if mine broke for 3-4k+. Really for what you spend on a brand new 4t plus that kit you'll be around 11-13k atleast on a new bike.
The main maintenance requirements for the Christini are to keep the chain drive lubricated, replace that chain's tensioner when it wears and keep the linear spline bearings lubricated (made easier with zerk fittings and a grease gun included with the bike). The drive can also make maintenance of the rest of the bike more time consuming--most obviously the way it limits access to the carb.
If whatever broke on your friends bike it could have been from a ton a reasons the kit also seems to add even more things to already complicated bikes to maintain, I definately couldnt spend the time maintaining the drive system plus servicing a fourstroke I'd never have the time to ride it haha. If you have a dealer near you I hear they give free test rides for you to get used to how the bike feels before shelling out the cash.
