A lighter flywheel allows your motor to rev higher because of the lightened rotating mass. This will allow you to accelerate faster. There is a certain balance in ligthening the flywheel. If you lighten to much your motor will stall. So you can take off some weight but you don't want to take off to much. I am sure Evil can explain it better since he does lighten flywheels
