Default gear oil on air filter???

Does anyone know if its bad to use gear oil on your air filters? I know some manuals reccomend engine oil....

gear oil and motor oil is too thick. it will make it run really rich and foul plugs. use a good quality air filter oil

K&N has a nice kit that includes the cleaner and oil. Not sure the price though but ive used the oil alot with good results.

How do you guys apply oil on a foam filter? I always end up making a big, sticky mess.

spray it on and massage it through, then put the filter on and wash your hands like crazy

yea no matter what i have done when i had foam filters it was always a sticky mess when i was oiling it.....but i have heard that engine oil on the filters works as well....i actually think it is in the banshee manual that comes with the bike

You can by the K&N kit for around $15 bucks and just washing small filters the kit could last you well over a year even if you clean your filter weakly.
