Default Artic Cat Engines

I read somewhere that Artic Cat is starting to make their own engines. Anyone know the details? I guess they are 4-strokes if they are new engines? I think they buy engines from Suzuki or someone (could be wrong and making this up entirely so don't hold me to it later).

This is correct Artic Cat has bought its motors from Suzuki from I think day one. I have also heard that they are coming out with there own 4-stroke motors. I have also heard that they are going to follow Yamaha and place the GSXR1000 Motor into a Sled. If I can dig up anything else on this topic I'll let you know

Yamaha already put their R1 Motor into a sled for last year. I guy we ride with has one and we call it the 1-TON because the thing is a tank. It has lots of power to get you across lakes but in a trail its like driving a sherman tank through a tight trail. Great Idea to shove a big motor into a sled but my 600 would smoke it in the trails. Also the 4 stroke sleds are very slow off the line because of the centrifical clutch system they just don't rev fast enough.

However even more impressive is the Ski-Doo MachZ 1000 Rev. My Dad has one on order so you guys will be seeing pictures and reviews of that thing. It is supposed to have something like 145hp.

it never dawned on me that the R1 was a 4 poke. oops. anyway i have ridden a few sleds but the most fun was a V-max 600. that thing was quick. a buddy of mine has a polaris pro-x 800 is that a 2 stroke or 4 stroke. he says his is mildly modded and makes 180hp?? does that sound right??

i'm not a big sled guy being that we only get about 3 real good snows every year and i can't justify spending 8000 on a new sled for that

The Pro-X 800 is a 2-stroke. Mildly modded making 180hp sounds a little out there to me. I guess it all depends on what he calls mildly modded, I suppose a supercharger could be considered mild. The MachZ has the most HP from a Production sled with 165hp I just looked it up. It is possible but he would have to have a lot of mods to get 180hp. Here is a link to a 270hp MachZ

I havnt heard anything about them making their own motors, but wouldnt that be shitty if they went to a 4 pussies? Talk about taking off super slow. Artic Cat has been buying their motors from Suzuki since the seventies. Before that they bought them from Kawasaki, only for a couple of years. They even had one or two other motor manufacturer b4 that, just cant remember what they were.

ok well i'll tell him he's full of shit next time i see him then. damn if i lived an hour north of here i'd buy a sled they get lots of lake effect snow. down ehre we get crap for snow maybe one or tweo goos ones a year. surely not enough to justify buying a $8,000 sled
