| This article is on jetting changes. In it I will give you step by step instructions on changing the main jet in your carburetor. I know a lot of people get nervous when it comes to jetting, but don't sweat it. This article will make you a pro at it. First please remember to use caution around gasoline and race fuel. I know we all know it is flammable but we just don't think sometimes. So it is to be careful and use your head. Also it is probably best in most cases to attempt a jetting change only on a cool engine. Don't forget how hot your pipe (pipes) get. I have found that it is always better to work on a clean machine. This not only makes your job easier but it also protects your ride from dirt, dust, rocks, grass, corn stalks, or what ever it has on it. The first thing you want to do is to shut off your fuel supply. Some people prefer to run the carb dry prior to jetting changes, but it is not necessary. Just keep in mind if you don't thee gas that's in the bowl is going to run out when you open the carb. But it is only a minor amount. For most standard 2stroke carburetors you only need 2 tools to change the main jet. A 17mm wrench or socket and a 6mm socket. On the bottom of the carburetor there is a large bolt. Using your 17mm wrench or socket remove it. (Note: If you didn't run the carb dry this is when the gas is going to run out) This will expose the main jet. Next use the 6mm socket and remove the jet. In most carburetors it is recessed a little, but a standard socket will fit. Once you remove the main jet just simply screw the new one in. Then replace the cap with your 17mm wrench. (Note: Both the jet and the cap only need to be snug. don’t get carried away.) Now all is left to do is turn the gas on clean up your mess and go ride that beast. Stay tuned for more carburetor mods in the future. By: SparkZilla |
