Once I got through putting brand new grips on my bars, and my clutch side bar had ripped through the end of the grip. I was pissed, and I learned that the pro's put a nickle in the grip, so when they crash the bar doesn't rip through the grip. I got new grips, installed them with nickles, and I will deffinitly contuntinue to put nicles in them.

i gotta put a new set of grips on mine, they are worn out and the one on the clutch side slides off....and always at the worst times. but yea i have always used soap water, soak them up good and as soon as the water dries the soap holds it on good.

make sure you never use super glue to try sticking the grips on. ...for some reason super glue degrades the rubber and your grips end up leaving a black tar like goop on your hands every time you ride.

Honda grip glue and safety wire works really well also.

what works well for me is the compressed air method allong with some extreme hold cheap ass hair spray wiht high alcohol content (the flamable kind). just spray a little on the bars and they slip on perdy easy. compessed air helps it dry instantly and eases installation. now if your riding in a monsoon or dump your bike in water on occation, wire ties may be some added security against a grip flying off without warning.
