What he said ^^

The yfz450 is a high reving quad, but that comes at a price. it requires CONSTANT maintenence or the engine will go south REAL quick.

a friend of mine rides in south africa on their pro circuit on a yfz, he said that he goes through a motor practically as much as one a weekend.

the only real thing it has going for it is the large disp. (which i have a feeling will be changing in the classes soon like it has for dirtbikes)

and the newer chassis and suspension.

Yea if you want the combo of both then a nice 250r chassis with a wicked 450 motor would be nice.. The geometry of the 250r chassis just can't be matched and easy riding of a 4 stroke with power is much easier.. Mind you this, slowly they are starting to do away with the after market of the 2 strokes but luckily the 250r is still the strongest one out there so stuff is left to buy..

Hmmm 350r 2 stroke of a 535 yfz... I love the smell of 2 stroke oil in the morning

Aftermarket is all you need to know haha I like to keep it a secret.. Best part, it's on a stock cylinder too

i own both.. and i 05 yfz and an 88 250r.

250r is completely redone.

yfz piped, jetted and air box mod.

the white on the yfz looks quite weird with 2 yrs of dust on it. i bet it would look just like new again if i blew the dust of it !!lol oh and it's only got 8-10 hrs of run time on it also.

can u guess which one gets ridden more!!??

well ive got a laeger R, taht i still love, it handles amazingly well its super light, it revs up quick with the cr ignition, but ive also got a 08 LTR, and for a stock machine its amazing, just take off the lid and baffle and throw on a cherry bomb, and it runs with my R, it comes stock 49 inches wide with long travel suspension, it may not handle as good but its still almost as good, but its stock, and my R has 20 grand into it, so i think that shoudl say alot on its own, if your on a budget get a LTR, if youve got money get a 250r or a KFX450, or wait untill next year and get the the KTM 450mx

Thanks for the help. Went with a 2002 Lonestar 250r chassis witha YZ426 motor in it. Skeered of the the fourstrokes cus of the maintenence and the fact that i know nothing about them, but i had to see what all the hype is about. Never rode a fourstroke till now but as Jim Carrey would say " I like it alot". I will post pics later. Always wondered why those idiots would spend 3gs on good suspension, now i know why.

Also, it depends on what kind of riding you are going to do.

As far as 4 strokes being high maintenance, they do not become problems unless you neglect them or they get old. I have an 06 Raptor and haven't had to turn a wrench on it yet. Motor mods and rebuilds are 10X as expensive but less frequent if you maintain the quad properly.

One word of advice if you get a 450. DEFINITELY get the yfz, I think the 450Rs are pathetic. Atleast stock they are.
You are comparing apples to oranges in maintanence between the raptor and any 450. The raptor is a trail machine made to withstand yrs of abuse. A stock 450 will pull harder than a stock raptor, why, high compression. These 450's are tweeked from the factory and are ticking timebombs, unless you refresh accordingly $$$$$$. You can build one to the moon and get what another 15 hp out of em

I have both too, 86 R and 05 yfz. I bought it used, crank went about a month later. Tore down bought all parts to build it for mx, got a 06 motor. Just needs powdercoat and few small misc parts. Im finally getting around to it now (a year later). I bought the 250R and quickly forgot about the yfz.

Im probably gonna sell the yfz when i get it finished and try to find a nice trx and atc project to mess with. Like everyone else has mentioned yfz's are fast and a nice bike but not very reliable.

i have both a 1988 mx 250r and a 2006 yfz 450 with pipe jet kit computer and etc they are both great bikes and the are both reliable i have punished the yfz and it is still running good but the 250r is to but i would probaly buy a 250r for mx because you can get a mx 250r a whole lot cheaper than a mx yfz 450 just my thoughts on the matter

IT KICKS ASS TO OWN BEST OF BOTH WORLDS 88 250R 06 YFZ 450
