The silencer is designed to run with backpressure gained from the packing.
Aside from being annoyingly loud, you're not gaining anything...in fact, you're hurting performance if anything. Pack them please.

You can go to Home Depot or Lowes and get the pink house insulation to repack them, just tear or cut the paper off. Seriously....

I run my lt250 with just a hollow silencer. Thats how i ran my old kx as well. Performance wise i didnt notice a difference on the lt but on the kx it had alot more power. People tell me all the time its not good for it but i ran my kx for 2 years with no problems with the engine.

hes right, u need to pack them well especially with ur shee, i dont know if you have noise restrictions where you are but if you do u will be above them......and you will lack the back pressure which allows premo performance

Blown out silencers are downright anoying. Back pressure is very important on a 2 stroke.
You are definitely not going to gain ANYTHING by removing the packing, but it wouldnt hurt the bike.
Places around here get shut down all the time because of noise.

yo u have a sonic wave that the pipe produces the expansion chambers aids in scavneging and works with your porting to have a pussh pull effect by not running packing you have tricked your motor into thinking it has 2 expansion chambers now and removed the back pressure desperatly needed ,see out of frames account for this and simply removing the packing has a poor effect and screws the harmonic balance resulting in less power and usually youll feel it in the lowend torque and response.... as much as 5 horse loss on ones ive heard tested

Packing is there for a reason. Some clever engineer that designed the thing wouldnt put it in there if it wasnt nesessary. I think it also sounds crap without the packing. Your choice homey.
