what is wrong with jetting when the engine wont get in the power band and it pulses and just wont open up?

My guess would be you are on the rich side, they usually break up on the top when they are getting too much fuel.

oh yea, sorry, my mods are on an 02 banshee, with toomey t-5, v-force reeds, reed spacers, 34mm mikuni carbs, k&n's, port(mild i believe). my current jetting is 280 mains and 35 pilots. Would 270s be too small for my mods? i heard of a lot less modified shees running bigger than that. also im at about 500 feet of altitude.

sounds close to me.... but I dont have stock carbs on anything. what about your compression have you checked that?

my compression is 120, i think it is low due to the port job. but i tried 270s in it and it ran horrible, is it possible i need to go bigger. everything seems to be contradicting. also does screwing out the air fuel ratio screw richen the mixture?

ur air skrew is only for bottom and idle ur mains are for upper end it sounds like might need a 300 main but before u do any jetting check ur plugs see what thye look like

i looked at the plug and had a hard time telling, i think is is "white". i might try a bigger main, what about the pilot though? also i put a hush kit on for the michigan dunes and i think it affected it too
