Default replacing carrier axle bearings

i just started tearing my blaster apart because i need to replace the carrier bearings because i have probably an inch of side to side play now. i got both side hubs and wheels off, and the whole brake disc. do i have to take the sprocket and the big lock nut things off, or can i just like knock it through on the other side?

yes take off the nuts and the sprocket hub. itll come off hard, so soak it in spray lube and use a block of wood to beat with and use as big as hammer as u have and drive it out hit on the side that had the nuts

Bro, I Am Currently Replacing My Bearings And Let Me Tell U That It Is The Biggest Pain In The Ass I Have Ever Dealt With. It Will Either Come Off Easy Or You Have To Beat The Ever Loving Shit Out Of It, And I Am Not Kidding. I Spent 2 Days Heating And Beating My Sprocket Hub And Destroyed It. I Had To Grind 2 Notches In The Hub And Still Beat It For Ever. My Advice Is To To Not Lose Patience (like I Did) Try And Not Break Alot Of Things (like I Did) Keep All Of Your Pressure Even On The Hubs And Bearings So You Don't Side Load It On The Axle. Make Sure You Keep The Nut On The End Of The Axle So You Don't Bend It (like I Did). Take The Advice Of Other Guys On Here And You Will Do Fine.

its kinda odd.....sometimes they pop right loose....other times you bashing on them for days....like someone said earlier, when you get to swingin the hammer, keep a good grip on that sucker...haha I always had good luck with taking the carrier off the bike and putting it in a vise if you are able to.

When I first tore apart my old banshee *cry* I had to use a 2 foot pipe wrench to hold the axle, and a 2 foot crescent wrench to spin the big nuts off it, eventually I had to heat the inner nut with a torch to get it loose. after all that work, as soon as I got the nuts off, the axle actually fell out of the carrier....no beating, no nothing. Go figure. HAHA

i have the carrier completely off the quad but now i cant find a wrench big enough for the nuts. lol what size wrench does it take? i thought i had some that went all the way up to like 2 inches but i cant find them. is there a special tool to remove the nuts? i guess i should have made sure i had the tools before i started tearing it apart

Had the same episode on the Banshee...
Huge pipe wrench with pipe over it for extended leverage with my sister sitting on the seat holding the brakes.
Damn thing wouldn't budge, not even after soaking it with PB Blaster.. I like that whole rear end and the wouldn't break loose.
I got it going a bit with the BFH, I lost my patience and broke out grinder, shaved those locknuts right off!
Be careful not to damage the splines if you go that route!
