Angry reving too high

Okay, new to e2s, Great site!!

I need jetting/carb help!!!

I just finished rebuilding my wife's 89 Blaster as follows:
.60 over, Boyesen Dual Stage Reeds, Oil injection block-off, Bills pipe, Fmf silencer,
& Uni air filter with no lid. We ride at 1000 - 2000 ft. elev. (trails and hill climbs)

First Question. When I start the bike, the rpms go through the roof, uncontrolibly. I'm not choking, reving, or have the idle adjusted too high. What gives?

Second Question. Given these mods, does anyone suggest a jet/needle setting.
I started at 290 main and second from top needle position. Aside from reving at 20,000 rpm, it seemed a bit much.

Anyone want to offer their two cents?

My brother's does the same thing, but I didn't get a chance to look at it.
It may be probably an air leak or something that needs to be adjusted in the throttle cable, like something catching and not allowing the slide to fully return. I'm no expert, but those are my suggestions.

either the carb slide is stuck wide open(might be the cable or tors) or the intake is somewhere leaking and sucking air in .

do a leak down test.. should hold 5-7 psi for 10 minutes no prob.....if it leaks out you need to find where its drawing air in and fix it....if its not drawing air in pull the carb out (leave it connected to the cable and have someone work the throttle to make sure the slide closes completly everytime. and 1 more thing...for your mods did you ever move up an idle jet? i had to go up 1 size on mine when i piped my blaster.

My blaster did that and the tors was dirty and holding the throttle open inside the tors. The tors has the screw thing sticking out of it when you take take the seat off. Try messing with that.

I just had this same problem with a 99 blaster i just bought. I would kick it over and it would rev really high right away and stay like that for some time.
We fixed it by setting the air screw at 1.5 and then adjusting the idle screw under the seat accordingly.. Hopfully this will work for you as well.

BTW- not to hijack this post.. but can someone please diagram for me the port that needs to be capped off on the carb, when doing the oil injection block off (as stated in the previous reply). I dont recall doing this??

ok, remember where you took the oil supply line off of your carb...that needs to be capped off. its on the right hand side of the bike/carb....if your sitting on it right side. it will be towards the back of the carb right above the float bowl.
