Default located a compression gauge..

Can some one outline the correct way to preform the compression test.

Thanks!

pull the plug out.

screw the compression gauge into the plug hole.

hold the throttle wide open.

kick it over until the needle stops going up on the gauge.. probably take 3 or 4 kicks

I asked in another post but no reply yet..do you know what psi would be good?
and will this tell me if my crank seal is going..or do i need a leak down test for that?

My blaster manual says "compression ratio 6.6:1" what the heck is that?

A good reading should be over 125psi. No I don't THINK low compression is a symptom of a bad crank seal... so it won't help in that regard.

Compression ratio (to my basic understanding) is the amount the charge gets compressed just before ignition.

In otherwords... it squishes 6.6 volume units of fuel/air mixture into 1 volume unit of fuel/air mixture. Like compressing 6.6 gallons of water into 1 gallon. Make sense?

125psi is spec...you can have down to 100psi, anything below that and you need to give it some attention. yeah, it will run, but not to its potential.
and no, you need to do a leak down test for a crank seal diagnosis....or just remove the side case cover and clutch basket...youll be able to see it from there.

Compression ratio is the ratio of the total cylinder volume to the trapped volume in the combustion chamber at TDC. And it cannot be determined from the static compression.

yeah... what he said!

Just for my own edification... by that definition would it be correct to say that if an engine has approximately 198cc of cylinder volume with a compression ratio of 6.6:1 the trapped volume in the combustion chamber at top dead center would be 30cc? And the static compression of that 30cc would be 125psi at factory spec for this specific engine?

198/6.6=30
