Tuning question

Well hello ppl, im new here! I have a '67 SAAB 96 2 stroke. I live by A. Graham Bell's "Two Stroke Performance Tuning" book, but i have a quick question to anyone that knows: When he says that the ports should be 0.71 of the bore, he means at their widest point right? I ask because of the odd shaped "modified" ports he has a diagram of on pg. 37. I'm hoping someone out there has this book and knows wut i'm refering to!

Never read the book or own the book. I have heard of the book but I don't do my own porting not yet atleast
