Laptop DVD Burner

I'm buying but which one and why? Where to look & shop? Please help me out guys as I know nothing about this......

DVD, as any other hardware on a PC or notebook, gets the mainstream treatment.

Just get a run of the mill DVD burner. If it comes with a dual layer burner for the same price or just a hair higher, get that. Otherwise, the only thing a dual layer DVD player is good for is copying movies without any compression. A movie you rent from the store is dual layer.

As far as BluRay or HD DVD... BluRay won the format wars. And it was only in the last 6 months or so. I would wait till the price comes down on them before I bought a burner...I'm sure you're not worried about watching HD DVDs on your laptop...that's what a big screen is for....

Should I look for a particular brand? Does not necessarily have to be top notch above all, but want something decent.

Get as much processor and memory as you can afford. get a dual layer DVD burner.
A traditional single layer DVD burner that compresses a store bought/rented DVD will show more artifacts on a bigger TV...

By this time next year, BluRay DVD burners will be 1/2 the price they are now, guarantee...

Get Serial ATA hard drives in that notebooke (SATA) if you can. They have a higher data transfer rate as well...

Well... My bro had this external burner [by Pacifi Digital] never used and let me have it.
Another friend came by with a bunch of software, ended up with Clone DVD2 & a bunch of decoders.

Just burned the first flick and plays fine!

Get one that is a litescribe.

Then you can burn images on the CD too.

What exactly is that? I currently burn images with the laptop drive. Dvd's on the external!
