It depends on what it is, how rough the surface is to begin with and what level of detail I'm trying to get.
This volute took me around 25 hours and it mirror reflective. It was the worst combination of a rock hard alloy and a very rough casting!

Lol lots of people get satisfying results and not spend nearly as much time on a piece as I've been known to. I think I have a problem.

I polished a swingarm for 370's tecate, i did the whole sanding thing, and used a 4 inch buffing wheel on my drill with the cheap-as-hell 3m polishing compund in the white tub at wal-mart for likt $1.99....turned out pretty decent for a first attempt, lemme see if I can dig up some pics of it.....I know i could do a badass job on it now, I might ask to have it back and do another number on it.....i got sick of looking at it, I had to have had about 12 hours into all the sanding and everything

i thought i snapped a pic before i gave it back. No bad for a first time without "correct" tools. I found that you have to be very careful when using the dremel to sand, its very esy to leave unwanted marks in stuff
