Good queation. Powder coat is definitly tougher, and comes in any finish you can imagine; textured, gloss, flat, metalic you name it, but if it isn't applied right (metal pre heated) it's garbage, chips etc. Blasting aluminum is not good though, it makes the aluminum brittle. steel is fine to blast. Chemical stripper is great as long as you use the aircraft version, it contains methyleen chloride, that is the active ingrediant you want to see on the lable, other wise it takes forever. by the way; it rinses with mineral spirits. I like to paint my bikes lots, I get rims and things powdered ,maybe the frame and use paint on other components that I m more likley to change.
