If you lighten your flywheel you basically take the low end out of the picture. I built my tecate to make more bottom end power, big mistake on my part. Sure it has more power down low than most tecate's but its not enough and I hurt it where tecate's typically shine, up top. Building an engine to make bottom end power that is already weak on bottom end is a waste of time, the gains are not worth the effort. I wish I would have built it for mid and top end power (which is what I'm in the process of doing now). If you shave the flywheel the engine will jump into its midrange power as soon as you hit the throttle. The engine will be very snappy and responsive. You can still putt down a trail but when you hit the throttle you will be in the meat of your power band almost instantly, this makes the bike feel more powerfull and it aslo doesn't cause the engine to stall so much because you can blip the throttle and it will come back to life much quicker than with a heavy flywheel. This is not the case for every engine but typically will hold true for engines without much bottom end power to start with. Basically you should build on what your engine already does well, If your engine has no bottom end power build it so it runs in the mid range and top end. Don't waste time trying to get power where the engine doesn't normally make it, you wouldn't like the results you get anyway.

By the way Denny, what do you charge to lighten flywheels? Obviously I am in the market to have mine shaved.

It inables you to clime into the upper Revs alot faster and aslo takes alot from the bottom end shifting the powerband to mid-top end power not good for woods rideing Good for dunes and drag racing though

That's wrong info...period.

If you're talking about shaving a single cylinder 250...that is probably correct.

However, the twin shee is a whole new animal...
No, it's not gonna stall, no, it won't decrease torque....

This along with my RS Timing plate were two of the best bang for bucks on my old 96 stock motor before I built my cub.

The lightened flywheel allowed my motor to get on the pipe (T5s at the time) sooner, eliminating the hit and giving it smoother power all together, making it MUCH easier to ride.

The twin shee and single 250s are totally different animals. I'm not doubting your claims on the single...the principal is different for a twin.

Let eviltwin do your flywheel... Denny does great work and he mounts the flywheel on a banshee crank to turn it and lighten it, ensuring proper balance...not just shaving metal off!

I didn't no I had said something about less torque I said it lets you get in the upper RPM's faster because of less roatating Mass on the crank
