Default help wanted!!!

few years ago my brother drowned our '94 blaster. motors been out for a while, and i picked it up the other day, figured it'd be cheaper than a new motor.
was told that grit, sand or something, had fouled up all the crankshaft bearings. took off the head and cylinder and the bearings ARE very...gritty? the piston bearing, not sure what it's called, is loose and the piston wobbles. if i need to replace the crank or bearings, how would i go about removing the crankshaft, and any other advice or tips would be appreciated. wonderin if splittin the cases is the only way to remove the crankshaft, and if i'd have to go somewhere to get the bearings out, or would i be better off with a new crankshaft assembly.

chances are if you have to ask how to remove the crank, you are better off getting someone else to do it for you

Take your time and dont skip steps. That is a very vital part of the engine a mistake will cost ya............oh ya have fun and enjoy. It took me two years to fully restore my quad and it was worth every last minute of time.

I know alot about engines in general and most of what I learned came from manuals. Get a manual. It's an investment and alot of times faster and easier then asking opinions on a forum. Don't be offended. If you get stuck somewhere by all means ask here
Your gonna want to spilt the cases and clean everything + replace all the bearings. It would be a good time to do the seals as well. While your doin that you might as well get a re-bore a with new piston and rings.

paulie-b, thanks.
i'm not completely clueless, so i figured i'd have to split the cases. seen pics and descriptions on taking off the...clutch?...and taking out all the gears in there. do i have to worry about messing up the timing, or is that a given. making sure that there wasnt an easy way to get that thing outa there, so, feel free to post instructions or advice. where would be the best place to get a Clymer? Small engine shop or dealer?

Ebay has a Clymer. Rocky Mountain has a Yamaha manual but it's a bit pricey. Am sure lots of other places have one for a Blaster they are a popular quad.
