Question Blaster motor swap - YZFS250f!

I'm wanting to have a liquid cooled motor in my blaster and was thinking about modifying the chasis to accept a YZ250F motor of recent year. I'd do the DT200 top end swap (liquid cooled w/ powervalve), however my take on things is that it is too much trouble to get parts from Canada when located in the US. What do you guys think about the power of this motor (YZ250f) and how it would compare to a Blaster motor with the typical mods? (ie carb, exhaust, some porting)

I know going 4-stroke may anger some people, but you can't ignore the fact that the new YZ250f motors are very respectable. There really aren't too many solid options out there for a engine thats liquid cooled, won't vibrate you to death, and would be good for off road use... (I'd prefer sticking to a 2-stroke motor, however I'm open to options and would be willing to make the switch to 4-stroke if merited)

any thoughts?

some links to people that've done the DT200 top end swap. nice!!

The new 250fs are really nice. My neighbor just bought one and its like a totally different bike compared to the 02s at least. I've never ridden a blaster then a 250f so i wouldnt know much about the power difference but ive always looked at blasters as a step up quad from like 90s to 250s/higher because they're small and they arent all that fast. You would definetly gain top speed and low end power from a 250f motor but I dont think you would have the acceleration of the blaster motor.

Either get a big-bore kit or get a banshee. Don't give the Blaster a bad name like that. That's almost like sticking a Warrior engine in it!

why do you want a liquid cooled engine. i'm a banshee owner and lemme tall yeah the radiator thing is not as great as you think. i love my shees but air cooled quads are nice. just get a 240 big bore kit and a good pipe and reeds and you'll kepp up with stock 250's and still have that pipey little blaster that we all love. i miss my blaster alot it was great in teh tight stuff and lighter than hell. if only i wasn't 6'2" i'd be building myself a yz490 blaster. oh yeah now thats a engine swap that you might be interested in!!! but it's also air cooled

but isn't anything YZ (2stroke) mean you will have harsh vibration issues? I know someone who dropped a YZ250 in their quad and the thing put your hands and feet to sleep after riding it for just 5 minutes! The YZ490 don't got a counter balancer like the blaster right?

for those vibrating motors, the vibration propogates through the frame, foot pegs, seat, and entire quad at all speeds. a steering dampener would not help because it would only assist with the stability of the steering at high speeds. we even tried making new motor mounts which isolated the motor... helped a little but not much.... i think you just gotta avoid them 2-stroke YZ's.

a big bore kit will only add about 5hp on a blaster. porting with the big bore is where you get your power. if you want a reliable mx motor you can go to a 240 kit along with a 2mm stroker and a long rod. that puts you up there around 45 hp with a mx port. if you wanna dune you can go to a 240 kit with a 3mm stroker and a long rod with a mild drag port that puts you up around 50 hp. for all out who cares if it blows up running you can get a 265 kit with a 4mm stroker which puts you up over 60 hp. i say get a long rod for all those because when puttin in a stroker crank it increases the angle at which the connecting rod is pushed up increasing wear on the cylinder. with a long rod that angle is decreased makin the engine more reliable. but dont put a 4 stroke in you blaster......you wont like it. i do plan on makin a swap next year to a yz490 motor but i strictly drag race.

Why wouldn't i like a 4 stroke? Thanks for the cool info, however I'm not really looking for more than 35 hp and so a stroker isn't really looking to be down my alley. Reliablity is key. Plus stroking the bore is straying a little too close to the limits of what the enigne was designed for and its just a matter of time before you have a complete melt down... 50 hp is roughly a 300% increase over stock, and i'm sure many of the engine components (and other parts) will be over stressed. A system will only function as good as its weakest part enables it too!

Thanks everyone for all the help!

Yeah a 4-stroke motor runs really hot. If you could find a 250f motor with a different cam and a pipe/silencer combo and you put in your blaster I think you would be pretty happy if you like 4-strokes (and if you keep moving along). I just bought a 400ex and I love it but its not much of a difference from a blaster in top speed but its nice and light and it was only 1200$.
