Personally I would look for a forward kicking motor. I have installed different motors in the old lt230 frames and to have a rear kicking motor is a pain in the *** because of the rear fender. Some of the Honda ATC motors work well. The ones that kick forward. Or you could go with an electric start motor. If your going to go with a high strung 2stroke you should consider relocating the swing arm pivot mounts. Drop them down to the underside of the frame. This will lesson the chance of having the chain binding up on the swing arm. The 230 motor’s sprocket is higher than most other motors. This will be a definite problem when mounting a different motor because of the location of the swing arm. A couple of well placed chain rollers will solve that. (Skate board wheels) If you are to do this I would get a 200cc or larger motor. You will be surprised how much faster it will be. Not a quadzillar motor. LOL I have done that and it will make the quad un rid able and useless. Most of my friends tried to ride it with every result ending in a crash. Although it made a good conversation piece. If you would like I still have one with a Honda ATC motor in it and I will post some pic’s of the motor and how it mounts in the frame.
