Default jetski engine in minirail

ok i've been trying to figure out an idea of how to get a good size/powered engine with either a centrifical clutch or a auto tranny/clutch into our minirail project which is sorta at a standstill since we got everything mocked up. how hard would it be to lets say take a 2 stroke or even 4 stroke (preferably 2 stroke) jetski or even snowmobile engine and set it up to run in a minirail? i plan on mounting the engine above or on the swingarm itself which will have about 12-14 inches of travel when all is said and done. i like doing things myself with me and my stepdad im 17 years old can weld decently and my stepdad works in a steel shop and can machine any random parts we may need if he cant make it i can find it somewhere and im sure to be asking alot of questions as time goes on but we're trying to figure out something my mom could get into the passenger seat of and not get beat up too badly considering she has arthritus and for us to still be able to pull hills and not worry about getting stuck or even having to take 2 people to start the thing

The jetski engines might be a bad idea because they use lake/sea water to cool them so the cooling setup would be a hassle to get it working properly. A snowmobile engine should work well for your application. The Honda Odysseys and Pilots had similar engines akin to snowmobiles. Maybe look for something with electric start?

yeah the snowmobile engine seems the best idea just here in phoenix theres not many snowmobiles let alone snow mobile engines. and electric start would be great.

as said earlier the jet ski engine would be a pain because of the cooling sytem, if you havent noticed the water/coolant exits the engine through ports around the exhaust and go out through the exhaust pipe which has water jackets built in, do a quick search on ebay and youll see what i am talking about. i have a watercooled rotax twin 583 or 617 in a ski doo snomobile, runs great and it has all the drive components(clutches and secondary shaft) still in sled, electric start kits can be purchased on ebay and other places, PM me if interested. i can send pics if you would like to see it just for ideas.

fyi, it hasnt been run without the air box. i removed it because its huge and in the way of the pics. notice in the first pic right behind the carbs is the secondary shaft. there you could install a sprocket or whatever to power the wheels.
