engine painting

hey, I've been thinking about painting my engine in my trx500r, what do i need to do for prep, will i need to get it glass beaded or something to strip all the old paint off, or can I just go over it all with some sand paper to smooth it out???

and does any one have any paint type recomendations?

It's always better to completely remove the old paint, I'd love to see some pics of the 500R, I have one too.

there is a thread in here somewhere with pictures of it, but they are old, and it is more complete now, , it works quite well now but im going to strip it down for the winter and paint, .....trx500r project i think the thread was called

This is what I did.
Pull the whole motor. Leave everything attached but the carb and exhaust-cover them.
By a $20 siphon blaster and use '000' sand. I used PJ1 and really like it.
Things like rubber bounce the sand and are basically unaffected by it. If you have plastic side covers it will dull them. I just restore them.

i tried doing that once and i got about half of once side of the bowl, and was just like, fuck this lol
