ok........... iv long since lost interest in this project....but i will share my info.... i have built two of these before. its easy and cheap. the first attempt involved a clutch and sprocket.... once i started to relize the money it would cost, along with the fab work and the complexity of the design, it began to look more effective to just buy a small junker dirt bike. so the first attempt went no where...... the second attempt was thrown together in an hour... my brother and i got boured one sunday, and saw the original motor we had picked out for the project. it was some off brand "running" 53 cc saw. we literaly slapped it together. we grab this little 16" huffy single speed bike. let all the air out of the front tire. we took the chain off of the saw, along with the clutch, and bolted a bike peg straight to the spindle. we used the same nut that bolted the clutch on(it was easy) we then used a hammer to carefully(haha) break the handle and plastics off it... under the plastic handle was a medal bracket witch the plastic handle bolted to. the bracket was an aluminum 6" piece of "L" bracket. we replaced it with a scrap peice of steel we had laying around. ground a little paint off the front fork, and welded the saw to the bike. we welded it just below the front headset straight to the forks. the trick was. we measured before hand, and had the base of the peg set 3/8"-1/2" below the inflated tire. we then filled the tire with air. the tire inflated putting pressure on the peg.............. know to the good part! it worked great. it only had one gear though.....go!... you would need to pedal about 3 or four revolutiongs of the wheel to get it going.... it only went about 10-15 miles an hour... we bolted the throttle half open..... you just pedal, and go... my little brother rode it around for months and months til it eventualy had engine trouble, after a few failed attempts to tunethe carb, we gave up, and junked it. once we took all the parts off the engine and secured it to the bike.... it made it very difficult to work on it whatsoever! in hind sight.... leave the pull start on in case you have engine trouble later.... i found myself tuning the carb, then jumping on to pedal, then tuning, then pedeling, then tuning then pedeling, and so on, until i eventualy threw that thing in the garbage...haha.... ... i hope this was helpfull...... im on my lunch break, and i had nothing better to do....ahah...

sounds like a fun way to spend an hour... lol.. However the lack of a clutch, the pre-set throttle, and the front wheel drive ruins it for me...

I have been actually been thinking about it... lol.. I hate to say it, but every since this thread started I have been considering it... I have wanted to do it since I was about 12, But now at 26 years old I really have no use for it.. However I do happen to have several bicycles left over from my BMX days and a running McCulloch super pro 81 with no bar.....

I am doing it.. I threw a bike together out of some old junk parts... I have not decided if I wanna use the McCulloch engine though... It runs great, but replacement parts are no longer available... I think that I might be able to get a husqvarna 372xp for free... It got ran over by a logging crummy and the damage to the oiling system leaves it useless as a saw... I am going to use an 8" tire that I stole from a dolly on the rear.... Regardless of the engine I end up using, I am keeping the clutch. The tire will be driven by a small bearing mounted spindle, the spindle will be connected to the engine with a shortened chainsaw chain with the teeth ground off... I figure a 1.25" diameter spindle should be good for close to 30mph at 8000 rpm.. Braking duties will be handled a bicycle caliper on the front wheel.. lol...
