Default Custom ATC Dragster

Ok I am planning on taking the motor out of my 83 ATC and I want to put a bigger motor into the frame. My plan is to take a CR500 or KX500 motor and mount it in there. Since the frame is a Air Cooled frame I will need to mount the dirtbike radiator to the frame. I am also going to get the neck of the frame choped so and reattached so it is raked out farther. This will lower the front of the bike. I have someone who is going to make me a custom +12 swing-arm and I am going to put a drag axle in there.

this is the plan is there anything you guys would do different. Maybe a different motor to use. i want to go with single cylinder because it should drop into the frame easier than a banshee motor. Maybe I'll look at doing a saber 500 motor. Who knows gotta get the LT motor done first but my mind is drifting because I have nothing to do to the LT yet till the motor gets done.

Yeah we are putting a complete Honda 250R carrier and Axle so it will get the sproket on the right side. The Tri-Z is a good motor but I am looking for 100+HP Then going to put the Nitro on it just incase there is a bigger badder unit out there. But I figure with the weight loss of useing a 3-wheeler frame it should be pretty hard to beat.

Its not going to be something that I would drive around its going to be set it up and it goes in a straight line. The frame is going to sit almost on the ground. Not sure what motor I am going to use yet I guess it will come down to what I can get my hands on cheap. It will be awhile until this even starts I am going to have my chrome parts bill from 1dirracing then shortly after the motor bill.

Oh the Chrome is for my banshee and my buddies Zilla. The motor at 1dirracing is for my LT250.

I haven't even started this project yet. It is in the distant future. I am just trying to get idea's. I will assemble the whole thing before I even think about paint and chrome. I am thinking I want to try to Iodize (sp?) the motor Red. Not sure though that is the least of my concerns right now.

For now I am just going to rip the 3-wheeler till it is time to do it over. Motor will probably blow up soon.

seems to me tath maybe a 83 r chassis isn;t your best choice i knwo that is wha you have but a 85-86 chassis would work alot better plus there is a bit bigger aftermarkt for those. and the stuff is readily available. and.... it has teh rad. mounts already. and teh split tube chassis (i think 81-84R's have the monotube chassis) adn teh cr500 swap into a 85-86 R is common and easier than a swap into a 81-84 (i'd imagine) just a thought. oh yeah the whole front suspension will swap also so... you;d realyl just need the chassis and plastic since your doin up a different rear suspension anyway.
