Default Which engine for 400ex frame?

Ok guys I need your help. I am close to finishing my 87 250r project and I have another one to start on. I have been given a complete rolling chassis 2001 400ex. The only thing missing is the engine. Now what 2 stroke engine should I put in there? I was thinking of a 250r or CR250 engine. I can get a 96 KX250 engine for $200 that needs rebuilding but that may take a bit more fabricating than I can do. And I thought about a CR500 engine. Steer me in the right direction here guys. Any input or thoughts will be helpful. Maybe a banshee engine???

I'd got with a trx250r motor, no vibration issues and shouldn't be much to fab up.

Yeah i was thinking of a 250r motor...that would be the easiest route i think. Maybe some kinda big bore/stroker combo around 350cc.

For sure i would go with a counterbalanced engine, it will be alot easier in th end.
Next, What type of riding do you want to do with it? If your going to MX or trail ride it I wouldnt go any further than a 250CC.

built 250r would be best... That kx250 is cheap and would haul ass, but the vibes would be annoying... the 250r swap would probably be the easiest and most rewarding

Well my 87r is set up for the woods and trails so this one would probably be set for drag racing or just balls out top end power.

An 88-90 Quadzilla motor would be challenging but bad ass in the end.
