Default 250 or 500?

looking to buy a 2 stroke bike.

its between a CR250 and the CR500.

as far as handling of turns, jumps, whoops, which bike is a better choice?

probably have some dune and trail time as well.

is the cr500 much bigger than a 250, as far as bike dimensions and weight go?

i am quite sure the 500 is absolutely an insane power monster.

never rode either bike, but i am not inexperienced in riding, just a bit inexperienced in an insanely powerful bike, but i went from riding a shitty 4 stroke 80 to riding a kx80 with absolutely no trouble whatsoever.
Also hopped on a CRF-450x the other day, and took her down the road for a few rips. first time on a large bike with good power, had no problem ripping through the gears like ive been riding it for years.

just looking for something that handles great, and has insane amounts of power.
not really looking to go fast on top as i am to accelerate like a mofo.

for a good mix of riding styles, which would be a better choice?
and remember, im trying to put these 450's down.

I had a 250 and it was built, fast enough for me but i dont have a lot of experience in bikes. My buddy had a cr500 and it was crazy fast! He loved it, it just takes a lot out of ya to ride. He's a strong guy, but he couldn't ride forever on that thing. I'd still say the 500, especially if you wanna kill the 450's

I've had the 125's 250's and the CR500. The hundy is a handful but power is smooth like the 450's as you have no PV waiting for the violent hit. You have two choices, buy a 500 and add a FWW to tame the power to a more managable band or buy a 250 ride it for a while, then big bore it if needed. I got rid of it because it was an 89' and jumping doubles at the track I was afraid of landing it and have the frame snap or something else break. You could also buy a service honda in the beer can frame and it will handle anything you throw at it and have today's ergonomic's. I want another cr500 and will go with a beer can framed hundy next time.

250cc is the way to go.
In my opinion, the cr500
is not in any way practical for
what you want to do.

if you get a newer cr500 it will handle OK and jump suprisingly well for what it is. also the newer 500 you get the less power and more mellow it hits becasue every year after 1986 honda tried to make it more user friendly ('86 hp: 64ish / '01 hp: 55). the power doesnt come on like a light switch but it is very intense and a hell of a ride. i would get one for sure, it destroys 450's in drag races and ametuer vs. ametuer will be close on a track. the only downside is they vibrate pretty bad.

Shit the hundy only vibrates when bolts are loose! As long as the engine and exhaust bolts are torque'd it's not bad at all. As long as your in good shape a 500 is doable for a day's riding. If your a couch potato then get a 250 and it will still kick your ass.

A 250 is a good all around bike. I would love to build a cr500 dune shooter when I'm done with this pig. hell there is a CALI STREET LEGAL CR500 (thats right a street legal 2 stroke in cali lol) in palm springs for $3000 right now that shit would be sweet!!!! http://palmsprings.craigslist.org/mcy/623070540.html

physical size-wise, how did it compare to a 250?

The 250 and 500 are just about the same other than 250cc's.

that will be a big factor in choosing what i buy. if they seem to be pretty close to being the same bike, other than the motor, i will probably get a 500.
