Default how fast with a drag port 250r??

I got me an extra stock 86 250r cylinder on the way and im thinking about having it drag ported and using it for when I go to the drag races. my setup would pretty much be the same that im running now: esr trx 5 pipe and silencer, stock 87-89 long rod crank with spacer plate and 86 piston, thin cr head gasket with stock head, 01 cr250 ignition system, vforce 3 reed valve with 38mm airstryker carb. I guess this would be setup to run in the 250cc class since i'd have the oem jug. with drag porting I would be able have much more mid-topend power and be able to hold my own against the banshees on topend.

last year my bike ran mid to low 4's in 200ft races (didnt get any times for 300ft). I'd guess with drag porting and the right gearing/tires i'd be about to run very low 4's and maybe high 3's in the 200ft. any opinions or tips or anything for how to go about with a drag ported 250cc 2 stroke?

a 250r thats setup right can run high 4's in 300 feet and high 6's in 500 feet ,but your gonna lose a lot of lowend o n a dra gport and really sometimes an mx style port layout will get you for mpoint A- to point -B sooner ....the chassy suspension tires gearing etc. have just as much or more to do with it as the engine output does in the atv drag racing world

i would focus on taking what you have and doing some mods like drga tires lowering the bike and ligthening it gearing too if yo uwant better times ,cause im sure fiveonciks port is plenty competative for the dispacment .. just a matter of getting it to the ground i na better way for drag racing and more condusive ot a dirt track strip

well this is just another idea at the moment. yes five0nick's porting runs very hard, top to bottom. im sure my motor could be tuned a little better and it run alot better on the track. my current frame weighes a ton though with the big ass gussets and thick full chassis steel skid plate welded to the frame. I do still have my hacked up frame that I had the blaster motor in. I could probably take it and clean it up and lighten it up some more and make it into a dirt drag chassis. cause I still have my blaster that I can always ride as my main trail bike if I want.

this coming saturday we're going to sheltons dirt drags for their first test & tune of the year. everything is gonna be free and also free food. me and my brother are gonna race and see what kind of times we can lay down. im pretty sure he will still beat me though. depending on how it runs at the test and tune, will let me know if its worth transforming into a drag 250r.

https://www.sheltonsdirtdrags.com/

gonna try and get alot of video of us racing that day too. should be awesome, i cant wait for it!

yeah KY i would really consider just building a complete machine.i hava tried to drag and hillclimb the same machine before as for trail riding it..that doesnt work out too well.if you have a track you can go to and like doing it..it is worth it.you must get the bike sitting as low as possible..i would change around alot os suspension setups going from one type of riding racing to another.it is a pain and will never be as fast as it could be with an all out drag setup.you seem to have enough ability to make some custom parts if needed or stretch the front of the machine out for added stabilty.i am currntly stretching the front of the blaster and can give ya advice or direct you for materials if you ever plan on building a drag quad..

yea the idea of a drag 250r is sounding nicer and nicer. I pretty much have all the parts to build it, its just gonna take alot of work and fabrication. I'm probably gonna keep the frame mostly stock, might chop the subframe off and rebuild it with lighter material. probably gonna keep the front end stock and just use solid struts, I already have some made for it thats on it right now. and im probably gonna use my old steel yellow swingarm, standard length, and build me a wheelie bar for it. pretty much every bike at sheltons ran a wheelie bar, so it must work good. I shouldnt even need to buy any parts at all for it, just gotta fix up the old frame and switch over alot of parts and stuff. im gonna have to shop around and find a place that sells good quality steel round and square tubing.

yeah i did the subframe also..i used 4130 chromoly steel for everything.it is alot lighter.i used .058 wall for everything.if you cannot find it locally i ordered mine through the chasis shop.they have a site but i dont have it right now..they buy in bulk and can sell at fair prices.its not that expensive.you can weld it wth your mig..same setup as steel.you run gas?my shop recommended 80/20 argon/C02...

well all we got is a little lincoln gasless fluxcore wire welder, but our cousin has a small size mig welder that is perfect for frame work and stuff. not sure what his gas mix is.

but anyways, on sheltons website, the 200ft track record for the 250 mod atv 2 stroke class is 3.450, and the 300ft record is 4.582. are those times out of my leage or would I be able to catch somewhere close to those with my current motor? im gonna have a good baseline to go by when we go to the test and tune on april 5th.
