Default Flattrack advice

Just need a little advice on how to set my swaybar for flattracking . We only have about 6 races a year around here during the summer mostly . Im getting ready so I can start practicing on my track , mines better than most of the ones we race on . Im no pro but I have alot of fun doing it . I tried to race my raptor for a few years but then when I got my Zilla I actually started doing good . Ive got American rcer rears and Hoosier fronts , happy with my tires , but last year a guy who was supposed to be really good adjusted my swaybar and I think hemight have adjusted too much . I understand the principle how the bar works but mine would push to the right in a curve so I blew almost every curve in my last race still got third overall . Any tips on this swaybar or anything would be appreciated .

First you need to be able to read the clay of the track on race night.
Just sticking to one compound of tire wont get you to the front either.
Hoosier on the front & American Racer on the rear aint gona cut it, you cant get thoughs Hoosiers soft enough the match the rear

Some tracks need soft tires & some hard tires, you wont know what to use unless you can read the dirt.
You need to stagger the tires on oval tracks.
Measure the outside DIA of each tire, start with the left front, it needs to be the smallest tire then to the right front a little bigger, left rear a little bigger & right rear being the bigest tire on the quad, that will make it go around the corner.
Then adjust the swaybar to take the roll over out while going through the corner.
When those tires stick in the corner, maintain you speed & you can hold your line through the corner, that rider behind you cant pass you unless the straight is real long or they just have way more power than you.

Tennzilla,
After doing what C-Leigh said and getting your stagger set, go and hotlap it, if it is pushing, crank some RF in it (lengthen RF rod) with the swaybar. This puts more weight on the RF and should make it stick better, try about 2 full turns at a time.

Is your Zilla stock height or lowered....... Lowering it will make a HUGE difference!!!! The bad thing for us Zilla owners, they don't really make a lowering kit for us like they do 250R's and 250LT's, etc. About all you can do to lower it is to go to shorter shocks...... BTW, whose swaybar are you running?

Thanks for all the advice guys . Im sure that will help me alot this season , always need an edge against those four pokers with their unlimited supply of aftermarket goodies . I am running the Dura Blue swaybar , I dont think mine is lowered but it has Works shocks on the front and seems to sit lower than most I have seen . I was planning on making some lowering brackets this year , I made some for my craptor and they worked great .

What i would try is maybe running a set of regular 400ex shocks.....it might lower it enough....it made worlds of difference with the 300ex shocks on the front of mine...thats just a thought.....a zilla and a 400ex are about the same plus the extra sag will just lowe rit a little more.

This might sound stupid but how do you get your tires to be different sizes . Air pressure ? Should it be a big difference or just a little bit of one .

Tenn,
Start by airing up all 4 tires, say 7psi. Let them sit an hour, then measure the diameter of each tire, putting your thin tape measure in the center of the tire. Write the measurement on the wheel, 56 1/2 57 1/4 etc. They should be close in diameter, you will want the smallest tire on the inside.

If they are the same. put 20psi of air in one of the tires and let it sit in the sun for a couple of hours, it will stretch the tire. I would start with 1/2" to 3/4" of stagger,
(front and rear) you can then use stagger as a tuning tool, more stagger= loose, less stagger=tight

Dirt sprint cars will run 18-20" of stagger in the rear just to get them to turn with wings , so don't be scared to experiment.

I hope this helps!

Jim
