newbie wants to wheelie

i recently bought a 1983 YZ 125 and would like to wheelie. yes you all are prolly thinking its old but it runs excellently. i would like to be able to wheelie on it. any tips will be helpful. thanks in advance.

it's not old it's in its prime. I have an 85 CR250 that runs great.

As for wheelie's lean back and puch the gas.

slip the clutch...get her wide open in 2nd or 3rd gear pull the clutch in let it wind up and let it out really fastit should bring the front end up

if ya wanna do a BIG wheelie perhaps even a backflip...hold wide open in first gear with the clutch pulled in and pop the clutch

get it into 2nd gear and wind it up a little bit and hit the throttle. I should have enough power to get it up. Start out easy b/c it takes a while to get good at them. Use you back brake for "balancing" it. If you start to feel like its going to go over backwards, hit the brake just a tad to bring the front end down. Don't use them very hard, just takes a very slight tap to counter-act the balance of it. It takes a long time to get good at wheelies and yes, you will crash a few times. You'll get the hang of it and like I say, if you can figure out how to use the back brake properly, you'll be able to ride 'em good. I've rode mine long enough and know how to use the rear break to my advantage and can pretty much ride one until I want to sit the front end down. Took a lot of practice and a few crashes though. If you can find a slight incline or a small hill that is long and has a gradual incline, it's usually easier to ride them on it.

a++++++ thats good advise ...only thing id add is your seat poistioning is crucial ,sit back toward the edge of the cushion hit first as usual then second and when it just starts t o come into the powerband ,tug on the bars quikly and once its up just tap the brake for control i m thinking 3rd should be pretty do-able on that bike

OLD??? Old is the "why'd the chicken" joke. I rode that model new off the showroom floor, it's a dang fine one too. Can't help you on the wheelie thing though. I honestly SUCK at doing 'em on 2 wheelers. I can ride a rear or side wheelie on a quad or trike all day long.

BTW what would you guys recomend i use for a premix ratio? right now, im mixing 40:1, but using synthetic injection oil. what would you recomend with this oil? thanks a bunch

you could even get into secound gear and wind it up a bit and let off then hammer it and you will be looking at the sky like i did once its up just burp the throttle till u get used to pulling it up then once u got that try slipping the clutch then try riding for distance i suggest you were some good thick pants and on a dirt road or grass your choice have fun !! nice bike too my buddy had one of those beasts
