Default Need Jump Tips/Techniques

Alright let me start out first by saying i sure wish i would have made this post earlier. I was out riding on a public track just getting used to my bike. I bought a yz250 a lttle while ago and am starting to get used to the basic stuff-Turning-Uphill/Downhill Tecnique. Anyway I decided it was time to start hiting some minor jumps just to get a little feel of what it was like. Iwas riding with a friend who said just make sure you give enough gas as you approach the jump so you dont nose dive which i understand would make for a very bad day. It was a table top jump and i hit it still in 2nd gear and bleeped the throttle as i approached. well you can guess the outcome. Had to buy a new rear fender and I have sweet crash wound on my back. I would sure appreciate some jumping tips. I might be one those guys sticking to trail riding with a track bike. Pothetic huh?

I don't think you should have started out on a 250, but that's a different story. When hitting a jump just hit it with a steady throttle. If you're in the meat of the powerband the nose shouldn't drop at all. Lots of people blip the throttle on takeoff on quads, but obviously doing that on a bike will have a lot more effect. And if you give it too much throttle on a bike you'll loop out as you found. When jumping start small and work your way up. You'll find your own technique and eventually with enough experience you'll know what you have to do depending on the terrain, conditions, and jump. Good luck and be prepared to fall so make sure you have your gear on, especially a helmet!
