Default banshee carb sync.

I have an '89 banshee that has already had the TORS eliminator mod done to it. After I purchased it, I noticed that there was a real bad off idle stumble. I noticed that the carb slides were gapped significantly different; 1/4 inch vs 1/2 inch. i bought a shop manual to see how to sync the carbs, and it referanced to the "windows" in the side of the carb and adjustments to the cables from on top of the carbs. What is the gap you should adjust the carbs to initally with the idle screw before reinstalling the carbs? How do you gauge your rpm with no tach? What is the best method for setting up banshee carbs? I'm a 4 stroke guy who converted 2 stroke. Any info would be great

Dont use the windows, take the intake boots to the air filter(s) off and look into the carbs to see the slides.
Adjust the idle screws all the way out so the slides are all the way down, adjust the carb cap tops so the slides both open from the very bottom at the exact same time, and they fully open all the way and are in perfect sync.

Quarter throttle the bike or so and start it and warm it up, after its warmed up have someone hold the throttle at just where you want it to idle (Where it sounds right pretty much) and screw the idle screw in til you feel it make contact with the slide

Now you have a pretty good base where your idling and if you need to fine tune the idle do a 1/4 screw in or out on each side and wait a few seconds...

Thanks for the info. I tried your method and it works great!! The 'shee' idles great and definitly has better throttle reponse. I noticed when the engine was running that the right pipe smokes more thatn the left and runs alot cooler, it seems to smoke more also. I just had the carbs apart for cleaning and put everthing to spec's, so I'm at a loss there. The main jets are 310 and it has LRD adjustable pipes on it. I pulled the reed cages out when the carbs were off, they looked okay( can you put the cages in upside down?). So I guess I need to check compession on that cylinder. The exhaust has more pulse pressure at the tip at the left than the right, so maybe I have a low cylinder. That's for your help.
