Any ideas on how to repair spinning thread inserts on a plastic tank? My 1985 Kx250 shroud mounts are spinning in the plastic. I purchased another used tank and it was spinning too. any ideas on fixing this? I would hate to buy a third tank, and have it be this way too

Well, this is a real pain in the ass to mess with, but you already know that. There are a couple ways to "TRY" to fix it that sometimes work. One is to use a soldering gun to melt the plastic around the insert to try to tighten it back up, the other is to heat up a bolt and then thread it into the nut to melt the plastic around the insert back into place. Either method should be practiced on an old tank. The heating the bolt method requires finesse. Have water handy in case you need to cool it down fast to prevent melting the plastic too much. Again, this takes a bit of skill and experience to get right, so use at your own risk.

Or you could take a two part epoxy glue or SEM Panel bond and put some of that around the insert. That shit holds body panels on cars so I'm sure it would work for what you're using it for. Just make sure you have good clean abrasive surfaces or the shit won't hold.
