| For Father's day the wife and kids got me a brand new Stihl backpack leaf blower. It was prepped buy the dealer so all I had to do was fire it up. As labeled on the gas cap it was filled with 2stroke oil and my wife was pleased to announce that it uses the same mixture as my Stihl chainsaw. I pushed the prime bulb and fired it up. I never heard a 2stroke sound like this before and immediately shut it off fearing something was wrong. Further investigation revealed thats it's not a 2stroke at all. It's a 4stroke that burns mixed gas in order to eliminate the crankcase to save weight! Stihl calls it 4MIX. Has anyone else ever heard of this? If I have to own a 4stroke at least I feel better putting in mixed gas. |

| My neighbor who is a small engine mechanic was tellin about them. They are basically a 2 stroke setup with valves instead of reeds and they fire like a 4 stroke. I don't quite see the advantage of them unless they get a lot better fuel economy. Whats the power like on that thing?
