yes, it is a yamaha 125 on/off road bike from 74. so that makes it a dt. it has a starter generator, instead of just a flywheel and points. it has a big coil of windings under the cover which is part of the generator and its fried, got too much oil in there and cooked it. i have an old clymer manual that has all the break down of the starter in it. don't tell me you haven't seen one kane, i thought you have seen or had every old bike!!

Serious as all hell, bro. I have the manuals for every DT ever built right in my hand right now. Covers 1968 to 1997. There isnt an electric start model in any of them. The only 125 even close to what your describing that I've found so far is the RD125. The DT125 and DT175 that I'm aware of DO in fact swap out most things, but they are virtually the same as the DT250. There are however RT's that are like what you're describing.

Ah got it now. That's the DT1 not the DT. That was the first 2 years before the 125 became the enduro DT. Those are in seperate books. But they werent electric start.

maybe i'm wrong, i just always called it a dt. plus it looks just like a dt. its a ATE series, that has a starter generator. and it said starter so i always thought it worked as an electirc start somehow, and only because it had a button on the left handle bar which i thought was for the electric start, and also had another for the horn. because i remeber disconecting the button which i thought was the starter, as it made some horibble noises when it was pushed! its only sat under my porch for about 6 years now, so i don't remeber everything. just that i found out the starter generator was fried when i tried to fix the charging system.

Nah, you're not wrong. It WAS a DT, it was just called the DT1 and DT2. They were the actually listed and sold as streetbikes not enduro's. The reason it has an electric start button is because the wiring was robbed from another bike Yamaha used the same starter generator system on. I havent found out which bike that is yet, I'm still looking.
