 cooling welds in water huh?? i thought tha was a big NO NO.. the way it was explained to me is that the water boils and you create small air bubbles in the weld... kinda like a sponge.... but your the pro.. i'm just a dickhead with a keyboard that failed his verticle stick welding cert. test for too much undercut      |

| well I cool minor things for joe blow. Broken mower decks, lawn mower handles, all the cash work or nothing major. Actually it will not cause air bubbles because the puddle is already solidified. But it WILL cause the molecules to crystalize and cause it it be brittle. We made punches in school. You heat up and dip for just a small bit heat up again and repeat process till you get right hardness. I do my mower blades. But I do them in oil. Heat the edge up till just turning red then I dip it in used oil out of my deisel truck. The high carbon content in the used oil, soot from the oil will make the edges of the blades high carbon steel.Them babys stay razor sharp as long as you hit no rocks. Vertical up sucks. | i had practiced with 6010 root and 7018 cover.... but at the test it was justy 7018.... ok the brittle thing is what i was taught... my neighbor is a welding instructor.... |
