Default Suzuki Quadracer 250 Opinions

Hi, I am going to look at a 1985 Suzuki Quad Racer 250 for $300. It runs but has some noise coming fromt he bottom end. It is probably a rod knock. So i figure that the water pump seal is proably gone and/or the crank bearings are gone. How hard is it to rebuild the bottom end? Also what else should I do while I have it apart? I will probably do the topend and the waterpump seal. I was thinking of getting a bore kit but I don't feel like being bothered with all the tuning. I have an FMF pipe that I think is for this quad so I am allready planning on rebuilding the carb and getting a couple different jets to try out. Please give me some opinions. Do you think it is worth the work? Is a 1985 model any better or worse than the newer ones? I am almost positive that it is liquid cooled like the newer ones. If anyone has done this job could you tell me how much I could do the job for if I am doing all the work myself and getting stock parts? Any comments would be great.

Thanks,
Chris

The 85 is liquid cooled but it doesnt have the powervalve motor. Its not know for making the horsepower of the powervalve motors that came around in 87-92. I dont know about the work your talking about on the qracer but I have had the bottom end of other 2 strokes apart and its not that bad. Your pictures of the bike dont work but if its in good shape and runs but just has some motor noise that could be potentially serious Id still say $300 is a really good deal. I would jump on it in a heart beat.

If you have mechanical ability, and a manual, it's easy to rebuild any 2-stroke motor
