I'd recomend the 125 since this is a 2stroke site. I rode one for awhile when I was 14 and I didn't have too much trouble. I really liked it, but I ended up going the quad route. 125's are just as tall as a 250 and I would say I was probably shorter than 5'7 when I was 14. They are good beginner bike's, I've seen them handle the same riding conditions as 250's, they just don't go quite as fast and you need to use the clutch a little more.

I'm 21 and about 5'7" and i got my first bike a month ago. It's a yz125. It's all the bike i would ever need. Shifting and using a clutch is very easy to learn. I'd worry about the size and weight of the bike. I think a 125 2 stroke would be all you need. If you can afford to keep the bike maintaned properly and want more in a couple years, you can sell it and get a 250 2 stroke. You might even want a quad or something else by that time. You can get 125's for cheap so it's up to you.

I wouldnt worry about a 125 or 250 having too much power. It's how smart of a rider you are. You can hurt yourself on a yz85 just like you can on bike ass yz250.

My personal opinion of my yz125 was holy shit this bike has too much power. I was in the same boat as you, it's my first bike. You get used to the size and power after a while though. I'd say just get something used. If it's a good price, get it.

Dude if you had to adjust the valves on a crf230, you probably held it wide open for days. Those things are rock solid. It's not a race motor, it's a trail bike motor. It's very reliable...You don't find a 250 all that fast? Why do you think the 500cc class has died? It's because their too powerful now. Also a 250 will smoke a 500 in a MX race every time because their more nimble. Technology has made the new 250s as powerful as the older 500s. I don't understand what your talking about. What exactly do you call fast? I think you may be riding a 250 that isn't putting out all that it should.

I dont even ride a 250....

This is what im trying to say, If you have an type of 'I like to haul ass' in you, your going to want the 250. If you are new to bikes, sure get the 125, but eventually your going to want to (if you have a 'i like to haul ass' attitude) get the 250.

Your just an ass. Your the kinda guy that goes and buys a car and instead spending the extra grand on the one with the kick ass better engine you buy the pussy mobile. You remind me of the dudes on the 4 stroke forums who masterbate to singletrack all day and like to time themselves going 15mph over shity terrain and never like the feeling of getting on some open land and feeling some true speed. NOT EVERYONE RIDES ON A MOTORCROSS TRACK.

Man calm down, I thought you were funny. I didn't mean to offend you. Seriously. I don't even know why your mad really. I didn't agree with a CRF230 being unreliable and that 250s were slow but that's it... And I don't even care to ride on tracks anymore. I prefer to trail ride. I think your a cool dude that has his own way of thinking and I respect that. WE cool?

Sorry man, i thought you were seriously screwing with me & being sarcastic.
I was thinking about a CRF250 (i think those have the valve issues) so yeah i dont know about the 230's. I dont think the 250's are slow, i know they haul ass...

Sorry about that man, were cool. Im gonna leave my 12 hour day of work now . Later!

i just switched from quads to dirtbikes, i had a cr80r when i was like 10, and didnt realy learn to ride verygood, i just got a ktm 200 and it is just a little bit smaller than a 125, but has the same or about the same power, it is a awesome bike, and is manageable, so the ktm 200 gets my vote
