Default Hey stupid, yeah YOU.

So you like to ride wheelies down the street on your DB or ATV? Do you like to play in traffic as well?

Three weeks ago a bunch of ATV'ers were playing around, doing drags on a local small-town street, wheelie'ing, and basically playing around where they obviously had no business being. One of their friends comes along with a pick-up and decides he wants to race. The truck against some 10 (not specific on the number) quads. The truck pulls ahead of all but one quad, it doesnt really matter what brand and make it was. The lead quad decides to pull a wheelie as him and the truck are neck and neck, doing roughly 60MPH. As he brings the quad back down, the bars are turned just a lil hair towards the truck. Withing a blink of an eye.............the quad and rider become a very big, very dead, stain underneath the truck.

As a DIRECT result, over 20 new ATV laws are being introduced. These are state Senate laws, no public voting. Included is one that limits road crossing from trailhead to trailhead from the legnth of 3 power poles down to one. Another is the closure of any trail that comes within 300 feet of any road, be it tarred or dirt. Another is a helmet law for all DB's and ATV's. Another is the reintroduction of making it illegal for any rider under the age of 16 to operate an ATV off the riders private property. Another is an increase of the registration costs to manage these new laws. Another is an over 500% increase in violation fees. And WOW have the anti-ATV groups gotten loud with this new and exciting ammunition as to why ATV's are soooooooooo dangerous.

For those of you who believe that the state cannot tell you what and where you can ride on your own property.............who do you think owns those trails that come within 300 feet of any road? You do. And YES, the state CAN tell you where and how you can ride. If you think otherwise simply e-mail Jeremy McGrath and inquire about his lawsuit against the state of California. They don't like his "PRIVATE" practice track and closed him down. And he's just one of many that have spoken up about, or filed suits against, states stopping people from riding on their own property.

damn, that sounds aweful what happened to that guy. but it was deffinatly very stupid and usually I dont feel sorry for dumbasses that do shit like that and get hurt or even killed.

Myself, I dont like to ride on the road. I agree thats its way to dangerous and atvs and dirtbikes are just not meant to ride on em along with regular traffic. I have to sometimes ride maybe half a mile on the road to get to some of my trails, and I admit I also drag race a few times every once in a while on the road, even though I tell myself not to cause its very dangerous.

i am definetly with Kane on this one....the government always has a scorched earth policy....it's never the resposible riders that get trails and laws made it is the dumb fucks like those....i can't snow mobile in half of the places i use to be able to because idiots that can't see avalanche danger get them selves burried and it drives up the search and rescue cost on the tags every year....i am all about freedom to do what you want but some people are making it worse for all of us everyday

Same has happened with the firearm industry. The laws don't stop the criminals......just stops responsible collectors like myself from enjoying what they do

yea, I think that might eventually happen. I think a really really good idea would be to make it where you had to have a liscense to ride an atv. and have strict rules for people who break the rules. i think that would help keep alot of idiots from doin shit like this and only let the responsible riders have fun.

Time to grow up people! You know who you are! We're killin our own hobby. It's stupid ass stuff like this that the politicans go for. If they can, the gov. would probably ban everthing that is fun, so everyone can stay safe. ATV"s, guns, old muscle cars, loud stereos, lawn darts[remember those}, street bikes and anything else fun. They would rather have people locked in their safe homes, watching good wholesome tv shows and laying on their couches gettin fat. Be responsible for the good of our sport. All it takes is ONE person to give them the ammo they need.

I think they should make it a law that atv and db riders should have helmets on at all times....its just smart. I wear mine about 90% of the time I ride. I wear the chest protector about 75% of the time I ride....i've been knocked around and had my back ripped open and i've clunked my head before....I'm not riding without them anymore.

Thats sad for the kid to get killed....but what he was doing was stupid and irresponsible....one bad apple ruins the whole batch...perfect example.

You know, when Bu Saif told us about the 2 guys who were killed while wheelie'ing in the dunes........THAT was sad. Tragic and sad. But an idiot drag racing a truck on the tar next to him and pulling a wheelie........I have ZERO sympathy.

All BS aside, I've tore up and down the street to test a machines speed. We all have, do, and will. I also live in the boonies and do so on a very long stretch of straight, flat road. I'm able to see that there are no cars (and no cops) while I'm doing it. Doesnt make what I'm doing right, but a hell of a lot safer. Much like 370's drag video...........the trucks on the road, he's in the field. And the road is a back road with plenty of vision as well. I see kids riding down the street in a local town all the time. Hell, I've even seen em racing to get away from the cops through the local wally-world parking lot. At the same time, I'm sitting in said lot with an ATV in my pick-up and people stare at me like I'm a POS.

Short and sweet.............just a little thought can go a long way.

i live in a small town (just over 900) and you see quads and bikes all the time.. it's the way of life.. we get a lot of hot shots from the cities up here thinking their shit don't stink.. they don't obey any law tear up the campground owners lot.. and then they wonder why the next year their fav trail is closed, and why they arn't allowed in the campground.. it's fucking bullshit. then the DNR makes so many new restrictions and sits on inersections of trails and checks for regristration.. i mean i'm all for rule to protect idoits from themselves.. but when it cuts into my riding enjoyment then i have a problem with it.. people just need to get it through their heads, act like an idiot, your going to get treated like and idiot..
