Being new enough to the site that the stack is still steaming, I still wanted in on this topic. I know this is a 2-stroke site but I'm willing to lay some serious odds that most of you own a 4-stroke something or other and just don't mention it. Before you start slammin' me, I own both, I ride both, and I love both. When it comes to sand and wide open spaces, give me a 2-stroke quad all day long. Tight or easy nice smooth mountain or valley trails, a 2 or 4-stroke bike or quad. Mountaingoat-type trails.....well, I've yet to find a better ride than my XR600. I've raced most everything against my XR on those goat-trails and beat virtually everything that raced me, but I wouldnt be caught dead on it in the sand. In the sand, a little ole YT125 3-wheeler would smoke me (I know, I own one of those too). I own a bunch of different machines (I'm a collector with a VERY understanding wife) and I'd have to say that, while I prefer my XR600 and YZ490-based Tecate-4 over all other toys, I like to be able to choose the right toy for the terrain or even just the mood I'm in. Having too many to do so, none of my rides are "tricked out" beyond a bit of lower-cost performance mods, and most still have original plastics and such (yeah, a couple are dog-ugly). Don't get me wrong, I'm not claiming to "have it all so I know it all". I'm only saying that 4-strokes are great in their place and 2-strokes are awesome in their place.
My only complaints on either are this.....I want a 4-stroke that keeps it's low-end grunt and power but gives me that adrenalin rush you get when a 2-stroke comes up on pipe. I also wish my 2-strokes would give me the gas mileage my 4-strokes do.

I agree with you on this 100% I dont want a 2 stroke utility quad. I think 4 stroke single cylinder motors (as I have said before) are fine for push lawn mowers and for utility quads. but they just dont belong in sport quads. a single cylinder 4 stroke motor just cant produce the kind of power I need when Im ripping shit up. when im going through mud or huntin or haulin shit back to canp. I dont want a banshee for that. I need the foreman. and for that stuff a 4 stroke is nice it just has no place in the sport market to me. even with tons of mods they just cant produce the tons of power that a 2 stroke can...

yeah 4 pokes are great for utility quads and lawn mowers (but lawnboys still rock the pushmower market) other than that it's all 2 stroke for me. oh yeah 4 strokes are awesome in V8 form or turbo V6 form. also crotch rockets are nice with 4 pokes but teh RZ is still the coolest moto GP bike ever

I have NO prob with lack of low end for me. 5th gear wheelies attract chicks. lol. Who cares about gas mileage. A 5 gallon jug will last me all day if not more. When your racing gas mileage is non existant. 370 is right for utility quads yes 4 strokes. But if you wanna go fast, you gotta fire on every upstroke!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Can I get a AMEN? -Mark
