Default JR50 run without OIL - can it be saved?

I was hoping to buy a friend's 2003 Suzuki JR50, which looks in good condition. I know next to nothing about this little bike, but I do know that it has oil injection. The problem is, the owner has NEVER put 2 cycle oil in the tank for the 20 or so hours that his son has used the bike. He didn't even know the tank was under the fender plastic. He has been running straight gas and adding 2 cycle oil to the Transmission oil filler plug.

Amazing enough, the bike still runs but seems really gutless. They may all be like this but I don't have any experience with it to compare. It will only idle with the choke on.

What kind of damage has likely been done to this thing? Is it repairable, or is the motor likely fried? THanks for any advice.

I would do a compression test on the cylinder. It should be above 125psi. If not then new rings would probably be all it would need. As for idling on the choke only means the carb and or air filter need to be cleaned. It's most likely a 2002 as that was the last year for the jr50. Where in Cali do you live?

Doesn't sound good. I haven't checked the air filter yet.

It's actually a 2004 JR50. THey are still making that model. New ones are $1099.00.

I live near Folsom. I know it was purchased from Roseville Suzuki. Probably gonna get

I would think that a dirty air filter would cause a rich condition, not lean. The engine probaly is in need of repair, for the price of gaskets its worth taking apart to inspect at least.

i'm taking a shot and saying there are a bunch of tiny stratches in the cylinder wall, your Compression is going to drop as soon as you stop kicking it. 100:1 is not a good ratio for a 2 stroke.. 20 hours with no lubercant in the cylinder is definatly not good.. might bore it, or hone?

Inspection is necessarry to know for sure. I would take a look at the lower end first, then replace the top end. Just because it has compression now, doesnt mean it will for long. The piston and rings could be trashed amd still have enough compression to start. With such a little engine rather it has 25psi or 125psi its going to kick over easy, get the actual specs for it to compare to.

you'd better check for play in the lower rod bearing... the premix lubricates the lower end as well....

sounds to me that your gonna need some rings.... don't be surprised if the cylinder needs some attention
